Acrylic Sheets

Acrylic sheet is PMMA - the material behind trade names like Plexiglas and Lucite. It passes up to 92% of visible light, weighs roughly half as much as the same pane of glass, and takes many times the impact before it breaks. Jin Yu supplies cast and extruded sheets in clear, opal, frosted and mirror finishes, cut to the sizes your job needs.

The cast-versus-extruded decision shapes both price and finish. Extruded sheet is pushed continuously through rollers: uniform thickness, easier on the budget, the workhorse for flat sign panels and volume laser cutting. Cast sheet polymerises between glass plates with no internal stress: clearer, available in far more colours, engraves to a crisp frosty white and thermoforms evenly - the choice for displays and high-end fit-outs.

Fabricators like acrylic because it behaves. A CO2 laser leaves a flame-polished edge straight off the bed - no sanding. Routers and saws shape it cleanly. Warm it and it drapes into curves, light-box shells and display forms. Solvent cement welds joints that all but disappear.

In signage work the sheet ends up as shop sign boards, light-box faces and diffusers, laser-cut 3D lettering, display stands and protective screens. Mirror acrylic deserves a mention of its own: a vacuum-metalised reflective layer gives the look of a glass mirror at half the weight, and it will not shatter over a customer's head in a retail fit-out.
